We believe that our strength is not just in our steel but the diversity of our workforce. Our people make the difference.
What you will do
As a Quality Specialist in Metallurgy, you will be a key technical voice within the Product and Process Development team. Your work will help ensure our steel substrates and tin mill products are developed, improved and delivered to a consistently high standard. This role involves a blend of supporting day to day manufacturing needs, driving long term product development and contributing to the strategic technical direction of the business.
You will provide technical expertise to manufacturing teams, working closely with colleagues to understand product performance, investigate issues and support process improvements. This includes documenting developments, sharing insights and engaging with stakeholders across commercial, R&D, inter-works teams and operational functions. You will help coordinate product development activities, ensuring steel substrate projects are aligned with strategic priorities and that information flows effectively between internal and external partners.
Your role will also involve supporting Service Level Agreement activities, contributing to relevant standards committees, and helping the business engage with industry bodies and academic partners. You may supervise academic students working on metallurgy-focused research projects. Keeping the team's work aligned with safety procedures, risk assessments and company policies is a fundamental part of the role.
This is a position where your technical knowledge will directly influence product quality, manufacturing capability and the long term innovation roadmap of our packaging steels.
What you will need
You will bring a strong scientific and metallurgical background, supported by a degree or equivalent qualification. A deep understanding of steel manufacturing processes is essential, particularly in areas such as cold rolling and annealing. You should have experience with project management, problem solving and analytical techniques, as well as an awareness of global best practice in steel production and tinmill product development.
Strong IT and analytical abilities are important, along with confidence using data manipulation tools to interpret and present findings. You should be comfortable communicating with colleagues at all levels, from specialists to senior managers, and able to present technical information in a clear and structured way. Effective interpersonal skills will help you build relationships across commercial teams, R&D, operational areas and external partners.
This role requires someone who is organised, detail focused and capable of overseeing complex technical activities. A commitment to high standards of safety and quality is essential. Familiarity with continuous improvement methods such as Six Sigma will also be beneficial.
If you are passionate about metallurgy, product development and helping shape the future of steel packaging technology, this role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact across both process performance and product capability.
