Applications are invited for this post of Vitreo Retinal, Cornea and Cataract Specialty Doctor in Ophthalmology at the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro.
We are seeking to appoint a specialty Doctor in Ophthalmology who is enthusiastic and qualified individual for this highly desirable post with prospect for further clinical and surgical specialised training in vitreoretina, cataract, cornea, and anterior segment. The successful candidate will form part of the ophthalmology team which provides comprehensive ophthalmology services for Cornwall but specifically will form part of the Vitreo Retinal and Corneal/Anterior segment services.
The department would aim to provide further clinical and surgical training for the successful candidate as needed with the aim to support the skills development of the post holder in order to function with a high level of autonomy. The post holder's core duties will include a mixture of VR clinics and theatres, Cornea and cataract clinics and theatres, emergency eye clinics and participation in a general ophthalmology 1:6 on- call rota. The service is delivered both on the main site at the Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske) in Truro and on peripheral sites in Cornwall and the successful candidate is expected to participate in the work on all sites.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will be expected to engage with monthly speciality level meetings and be actively involved with clinical audit, service development, the teaching programme and teaching of juniors and medical students. The successful candidate would have the opportunity to undertake research and use the facilities of the Peninsula Medical School.
Existing consultants provide sub-speciality interests in cornea, glaucoma, vitreo-retinal surgery, oculoplastics and orbital surgery, paediatric/strabismus and neuro-ophthalmology, uveitis, and medical retina. The medical staff, in the department, includes nine consultants, five associate specialists, one specialty grade doctor, a college speciality trainee, one vitreo- retinal fellow and one vitreoretinal and cornea and cataract speciality doctor.
