Job Summary

We have an exciting opportunity to offer a Band 6 Team Leader permanent position on the Coronary Care Unit and Cath Labs. The CCU is a busy 12‑bed unit providing both elective and emergency admissions. The role may also involve rotation into the Cardiac Catheter Laboratories. This is a wonderful opportunity for professional development, supported by links to the University of Brighton and a strong commitment to high‑standard care.


Responsibilities

You will provide strong leadership, excellent communication and support to staff with clinical expertise. The successful candidate is expected to function effectively under pressure without compromising basic standards of care and professionalism. The role may include rotation into the Cardiac Catheter Laboratories.


Qualifications and Experience

* Registered Nurse with active registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)
* Degree‑level qualification relevant to the role
* Professional qualification and training to lead the clinical team with relevant knowledge and skills for the specialist area
* Evidence of mandatory and statutory essential training skills, for example, Basic Life Support, manual handling, infection control, fire safety, etc.
* Four years post‑registration experience desirable; at least two years at Band 5 with proven management and leadership skills.
* Cardiac pathway qualification desirable.


Essential Experience

* Experience in nursing care, knowledge and expertise relevant to the clinical area within the NHS or a relevant health care organisation.
* Experience in the take‑charge role and the ability to lead a shift, manage the clinical area, lead people and deal with emergencies and queries effectively.


Desirable Experience

* Experience leading a team or in a service change/QI project.


Essential Skills

* Professional clinical knowledge and the ability to plan, develop and implement programmes of care.
* Skills to assess and interpret complex patient needs and provide expert advice and guidance.
* Clinical competence for the role supporting evidence‑based practice.
* Professional judgement, problem‑solving and leading team discussions to resolve complex issues.
* Support learning and clinical supervision of staff; lead improvements within the learning environment.
* Support mentors in decisions related to students/learners and manage poor performance.
* Day‑to‑day management of patient caseloads, initiative, delegation and effective record keeping.
* Ability to allocate workload, develop staff wellbeing and performance.
* Participation/lead audit and research, understanding and leading recommendations for practice change.
* Digital skills, use of systems, report writing and presentation skills.
* Excellent communication, the ability to provide complex, sensitive information, reassurance and empathy.
* Commitment to professional and personal development.
* Budget and resource management skills.
* Maintain effective relationships with professional groups, senior managers and external stakeholders.
* Maintain confidentiality, information governance principles and accountability for decisions.
* Delegate effectively and hold people to account.


Other Essential Requirements

* Professional and personal credibility.
* Flexibility in working hours and patterns.
* Ability to manage the physical and emotional demands of the role, including moving and handling patients, concentration, calculation of drug dosages and communication of distressing information.
* Reliable work record.
* DBS Enhanced Disclosure.
* Evidence that personal behaviour reflects the Trust Values.
* Full driving licence and access to a vehicle for domiciliary community roles and ability to travel between sites.
