Job Description
Technical Director - Peatland Hydrology
?? Glasgow (Hybrid Working Available)
?? Full-Time | Permanent
?? £55,000 - £65,000 + Benefits + Bonus
I'm working with a respected environmental consultancy that's looking to appoint a Technical Director specialising in peatland hydrology-a senior leadership role that offers real scope to shape both projects and team direction.
This is a rare opportunity to step into a pivotal position within a boutique, forward-thinking business that delivers high-impact work across renewable energy, infrastructure, and land use. The company values scientific rigour just as much as commercial awareness, and places real emphasis on collaboration, flexibility, and professional growth.
The successful candidate will lead on the technical delivery of peatland restoration work, act as a key client contact, support junior consultants, and play a central role in both project strategy and business development.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead technical delivery on peatland hydrology projects from initial assessment to final reporting and implementation.
* Oversee hydrological surveys, peatland management plans, EIAR chapters, and feasibility studies.
* Act as a senior client liaison, representing the consultancy with regulators and key stakeholders.
* Support and mentor junior team members, helping to build capability and confidence.
* Contribute to business development through bid writing, proposal scoping, and client relationship building.
What We're Looking For:
* Significant experience in peatland hydrology (approx. 10-15+ years).
* Degree in a relevant discipline (MSc or PhD desirable).
* Chartered member of a relevant professional body.
* Strong understanding of UK environmental policy and planning frameworks.
* Proven experience with peatland reporting and assessments (PLHRA, GWDTE, PWS).
* Confident communicator with experience engaging with regulatory bodies.
* A proactive, supportive leadership style and genuine passion for developing others.
What's on Offer:
* £55,000 - £65,000 salary (depending on experience)
* Flexible hybrid working model (Glasgow base)
* 25 days annual leave + bank holidays (rising with service)
* 20 days CPD per year
* Private medical insurance
* Paid professional memberships
* Bonus scheme
If you're an experienced hydrologist looking for a role with real influence-in a business that combines scientific integrity with commercial awareness-I'd be happy to share more.
