This is an exciting opportunity to work within the Lung Clinical Nurse Specialist team.
Under direction from the Lead Lung Cancer Nurse Specialist you will assess, plan, implement and evaluate expert nursing care and provide support to lung cancer patients and their carers. The post holder will have continuing responsibility for the co-ordination and organisation of individual treatment programmes throughout the illness trajectory and work to develop communication across divisional and organisational boundaries.
Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as 'Priority' and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.
Main duties of the job
* Provide specialist nursing advice and psychological support to patients, carers and healthcare professionals.
* Acts as a resource and contributes to the education and training of other healthcare professionals as required.
* Contribute to service development, audit and research projects and help develop educational packages as needed.
Job responsibilities
* Manage your own caseload of patients whilst working as part of the multi-disciplinary team
* Attend MDT meetings
* Communicate highly sensitive and emotive condition related information to patients and relatives e.g terminal illness, bereavement.
* Assess new patients in the clinical area utilising the holistic needs assessment tool to identify physical, psychological emotional, spiritual and cultural needs and developing a plan as needed.
* Act as patient advocate when relevant and be aware of all treatment options in order to enable patients to make an informed choice, negotiating with medical teams to agree a pathway of care and treatment.
* Provide continuity of care throughout the patient journey, liaising across specialist services where required.
* Contribute to the development of specialised programmes of care and provide written and oral information to patients and relatives.
* Provide clinical advice and support to healthcare professional within and across organizational boundaries.
* Act as a role model.
* Initiate changes in management of care.

Person Specification
Knowledge & Experience
* Demonstrable post registration experience
* Demonstrable experience working with cancer patients
* Demonstrable experience of acute hospital setting
Qualifications
* NMC Registered Nurse
* Post reg qualification in oncology/communication skills/counselling skills
* Good communication skills, written and verbal, with ability to demonstrate fluency, clarity and effectiveness at all levels.
* Proven ability to prioritise workload.
* Proven ability/demonstrable experience of directing and instructing others.
