All about the role
Here at Peterborough City Council, our Adult Social Care teams play a critical role in safeguarding the rights of the most vulnerable members of our community. An exciting opportunity has arisen within Peterborough City Council for an individual with the right experience, training, and people skills to join our Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards Team. As a Best Interests Assessor (BIA) working at a senior grade, you must be driven, able to manage your caseload effectively, take the initiative to prioritize your work, and positively represent Peterborough City Council in your daily duties.
Based at Sand Martin House, Peterborough, you will be part of our outstanding Deprivation of Liberties Safeguards Team. Sharing in our person-centred approach, you will preserve the rights of vulnerable adults living in 24-hour accommodation who receive care and are assessed as not having the mental capacity to decide on their residence for care needs.
Above all, it will be your job to respect the qualities, abilities, and backgrounds of every individual. You will promote the rights, dignity, and self-determination of individuals who might be deprived of their liberty, ensuring that their care provision is the least restrictive option.
You will work closely within the frameworks of the Mental Capacity Act, Human Rights Act, and recent case law legislation. You will ensure that all assessments and authorizations are completed in a timely manner, following the correct processes.
