Warwickshire Police Special Constable – 2027 Intake
Special Constables are voluntary, part‑time Police Officers who work in some of the most important areas of modern policing. A fully‑trained Special Constable has full police powers, wears a police uniform and works alongside regular police officers and staff, with opportunities for promotion and to develop leadership and management skills.
Commitment: a minimum of 16 hours a month, with flexible hours that can fit around work and home life commitments.
Roles and Responsibilities
As a Special Constable, you’ll learn about policing, develop new skills, meet people, enjoy new experiences and protect people from harm. You will be fully trained to give you the knowledge, skills and confidence to handle even the most difficult of situations.
Special Constables work across a variety of policing teams and, when fully trained, can perform all duties of a regular Police Officer, including:
* Patrols on foot and in police vehicles
* Roads policing
* Searching people, vehicles and premises
* Investigating crime, arresting suspects and taking statements from witnesses
* Policing major events, such as festivals, marches and football matches
* Tackling local issues, such as anti‑social behaviour and harassment
After a comprehensive initial training period of about four months, you will be attached to a Tutor Constable for approximately 9–12 months. Upon completion, you are signed off for independent patrol.
Opportunities: You may apply to work with the following teams when vacancies are available:
* Patrol – frontline, uniformed teams responding to 999 and 101 calls and proactive patrol.
* Safer Neighbourhoods Teams – community issues, anti‑social behaviour and long‑term problems.
* Operational Policing Units – Roads Policing officers and pre‑planned operations.
* Police Support Units – public order units supporting events such as football matches, protests and marches.
Recruitment Process
This is a rolling recruitment campaign. Selected candidates will be invited to complete a Values and Behaviours Assessment and a Situational Judgment Test within a 7‑day period. Successful applicants will then be invited to interview with current Special Constabulary members and force representatives.
Following a successful interview, pre‑employment checks including vetting, medical, employment and reference checks are carried out. Candidates who successfully complete the checks will then undergo an 8‑week distance learning course, followed by 14 weeks of face‑to‑face training on weekdays (Tuesdays and Thursdays, most Saturdays, occasional Sundays).
