The Opportunity:
Laing O'Rourke is currently recruiting for a mechanically biased Design Manager for an aviation / airport project in Greater London. The Design Manager ensures that all design information is reviewed and delivered in line with procedures, ensuring completeness and contractual compliance, including factors such as programme, buildability, safety, maintenance, and technical suitability. They oversee the production, control, and distribution of design information at various project stages and ensure regular progress reporting.
The Design Manager is a senior member of the Design Job Family and Technical Function, ensuring technical excellence, assurance, and performance across projects, from pre-project engagement to detailed delivery. All designers are part of the Engineering Enterprise, aiming to maximize design potential and increase project certainty.
What will the role look like?
* Supporting consultant teams to maximize effectiveness and value in providing integrated design solutions that meet client and business needs.
* Maximizing the effectiveness of consultant relationships.
* Reviewing design delivery to enhance quality and efficiency, including procurement, manufacturing, assembly, commissioning, and handover.
* Supporting consultants in adopting Laing O'Rourke's design processes, delivering rigorous project management, and ensuring effective supply chain collaboration (including BIM/Digital Engineering).
* Capturing business knowledge for continuous improvement, innovation, and capability development.
Technical Capabilities:
* Creating and owning the design brief
* Design for Manufacture and Assembly
* Information and Change Control
* Design compliance
What skills & experience are we looking for?
* First degree in Mechanical Engineering or relevant construction-related qualification with design experience.
* Approximately 5 years' experience, including managing design from concept to handover, across different procurement routes and sectors.
