RPS Tetra Tech are seeking an experienced Regional Manager to lead and operate an outcome-driven field delivery function in the wastewater sector.
About The Team
The RPS Asset, Surveying, and Inspection (AS&I) team provides industry leading services to the UK Water Industry and our employees are involved in services supporting Water Networks, Drainage, Surveying, Leakage Consultancy, Water Resources and Efficiency. The team analyse complex data and provide pragmatic solutions. This includes reducing water leakage and preventing flooding and pollution in local communities.
Our Wastewater Operations teams are a collection of 3-person site survey crews that support the regional water companies by gathering data from both above and below-ground wastewater assets. These assets can include reservoirs, dams, highways, and water treatment plants.
About You
As a key member of the Asset, Surveying, and Inspection (AS&I) business, your role as Region al Manager is critical t o our strategic priorities – to deliver great work for our clients by providing excellent customer service and executing complex operational tasks.
Your Responsibilities
You will have direct operational responsibility for a team of approximately 70 FTE delivering flow and asset surveys, CCTV inspections and sampling activities. Your primary focus will be operational excellence: driving safe, compliant, efficient and consistently high-quality delivery across multiple contracts and regions.
* Lead, motivate and manage an operational team (~70 FTE) engaged in flow and asset surveys, CCTV inspections, and wastewater sampling — including frontline supervisors and field operatives.
* Establish and embed standards of operational excellence: clear procedures, consistent quality controls, best-practice survey and sampling techniques, and objective performance measures.
* Own operational, safety and commercial performance for contracted deliverables, ensuring KPIs, SLAs and regulatory obligations are consistently met or exceeded.
* Develop and maintain robust work planning, resource allocation and rostering to optimise productivity, reduce rework and improve first-time completion rates.
* Implement and oversee rigorous quality assurance processes for survey, CCTV and sampling outputs, ensuring data integrity, traceability and timely, actionable reporting to clients.
* Champion continuous improvement: use operational metrics, root cause analysis and frontline feedback to reduce failure demand, shorten cycle times and increase asset-knowledge value.
* Ensure robust health, safety and environmental compliance for field activities (sewer entry, access to wastewater environments, confined space controls).
* Manage supplier/sub-contractor performance, standardise delivery expectations and enforce contractual quality requirements to maintain service resilience.
* Lead operational risk management and incident response with clear, timely escalation to senior leadership and clients; drive lessons-learned into revised processes.
* Act as a client-facing operational authority, building trust through dependable delivery, transparent reporting and demonstrable improvements in performance.
* Support commercial activities including bid preparation, pricing input, forecasting and pragmatic operational risk mitigation.
Skills, Knowledge, And Experience
* Significant experience managing field operations in the wastewater or utilities sector, with direct responsibility for multi-site teams (c.70 FTE) delivering surveys, CCTV and sampling.
* Strong track record of driving operational excellence: defining standards, delivering measurable performance improvements and sustaining high-quality outputs.
* In-depth knowledge of survey methodologies (flow measurement, asset condition surveys), CCTV inspection processes and wastewater sampling protocols.
* Proven people leadership with hands-on experience in workforce planning, competency development, supervision and frontline coaching.
* Commercially literate — experience contributing to bids, managing budgets, and resolving contract and commercial issues in an operationally pragmatic way.
* Demonstrable competence in implementing and maintaining accredited management systems and safe systems of work.
* Excellent stakeholder, client and supply-chain management skills with clear written and verbal communication ability.
* Competent IT skills, including MS Office and work management systems.
* IOSH Managing Safely (or equivalent) preferred.
* Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across the UK as required.
* Degree or vocational qualification in engineering, environmental science, leadership or equivalent practical experience.
Health And Safety
This role may involve:
* Moving heavy items including inspection chamber covers.
* Working in all weather conditions (this could include night work also).
* You may be require d to work in confined spaces and on highways.
* Please note mandatory drugs and alcohol tests are undertaken for this role and a DBS check will be undertaken.
