Your new company

Desian Education are proud to be working in partnership with a St Helens two-form entry primary school that is easily accessible via public transport as they are looking to appoint an experienced and qualified EYFS teaching assistant to support a new pupil to the school on a 1:1 basis. This is a full-time position that will last the remainder of the academic year where you will support a male pupil in the reception class on a 1:1 basis that has a dual diagnosis of ASD and non-verbal.

You will act as the main point of contact for you new pupils throughout the school day, advocating for them whenever needed and offer comprehensive support within the main classroom and breakout rooms, including sensory provisions.

As your pupil has a dual diagnosis of non-verbal and ASD they have been struggling to integrate into the class. To promote peer relationships, you will integrate them into new pupil groups and continuously strive to develop their speech and language.

Your core duties will include but won’t be limited to:

* Completing personal/intimate care
* Use of PECs, Makaton and basic SALT to support speech and language development
* Sensory stimuli via sensory toys and the utilisation of the sensory room
* Positive behaviour support (pupil responds very well to senior)
* Working in collaboration with speech and language therapists and occupational psychologists
* Reporting directly to the head teacher and SENCO
* Liaison with parents/guardians on pupil progress including attending parents evenings

What you need to succeed

To be considered in your application you must have full “Right to Work” in the UK, be willing to undergo full DBS screening and:

* Have relevant referenceable experience working with children within EYFS/reception
* Be at minimum Level 2 Children’s Care, Learning and Development or equivalent qualified
* Have experience working with SEN (Special Educational Needs), ASD and non-verbal is highly advantageous
* Experience using/delivering PECs, Makaton and basic SALT
* Be comfortable completing intimate/personal care
* Be able to commit to a full-time long-term contract
