Java Software Engineer role at NatWest Group.
What you'll do
In your new role, you’ll be working within the API Management team to engineer software, scripts and tools, and liaising with other engineers, architects and business analysts across the platform. The team develops and maintains a distributed platform of micro-services exposing a large number of APIs to both internal and external consumers. Your primary focus will be on the design and development of backend services that support business transformation initiatives.
* Implementing micro-services using Java and Spring technologies
* Producing complex and critical software rapidly and of high quality which adds value to the business
* Working in permanent teams who are responsible for the full life cycle, from initial development, through enhancement and maintenance to replacement or decommissioning
* Collaborating to optimise our software engineering capabilities and practices
* Designing, producing, testing and implementing our working software solutions
* Working across the life cycle, from requirements analysis and design, through coding to testing, deployment and operations
* Taking ownership of service and feature delivery with attention to quality and timeliness
Qualifications / Skills
To take on this role, you’ll need proven experience in software engineering, software design, and architecture, and an understanding of how your area of expertise supports our customers. A degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent professional experience is required, along with strong Java 11/17 development skills, with demonstrable experience using the Spring framework, Hibernate and PostgreSQL.
In addition you’ll need strong experience designing and building RESTful APIs, proficiency with Test-Driven Development, and practical experience with API design tooling such as OpenAPI specifications and tools, along with API management platforms and web security protocols such as OAuth 2.0. Beneficial experience includes Avaloq Banking Suite and DevOps using Kubernetes.
* Solid version control skills using Git and associated workflows
* Familiarity with messaging systems, such as Kafka and ActiveMQ
* Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with ability to learn quickly and adapt to new technologies
* Experience with development and testing tools, bug tracking tools such as Jira and wikis, such as Confluence
* Experience with DevOps practices and Agile methodology and associated toolsets
* Strong analytical skills with a proactive approach for solving highly complex, analytical and numerical problems
* Experience of implementing programming best practice around scalability, automation, virtualization, optimization, availability and performance
* Demonstrated sense of responsibility and ownership for your work
