Bridge Engineer
Location: Wigan, Greater Manchester
Working Arrangement: Hybrid Working (3 days per week expected in the office)
Rate: £55 per hour Ltd – (Outside IR35 subject to an IR35 Assessment confirming outside status) – Potentially higher for Chartered Engineers
Contract: Long-term contract minium 12 months
Hours: 37.5 hours per week (Monday – Friday, flexible working hours)
About the Role
An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Bridge Engineer to join a growing engineering consultancy delivering inspection, assessment and design services for local authority highway structures. Due to increasing workloads across local authority projects, they are looking to appoint a skilled engineer who can support and help lead the delivery of bridge and highway structures work.
This role requires a hands-on engineer who is confident preparing structural design calculations themselves. The client is not looking for someone who solely checks or reviews calculations; the successful candidate must be comfortable producing technical designs and calculations directly.
You will join a small but growing engineering team, contributing to both project delivery and the continued development of the business.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare structural design calculations for bridges and retaining walls
Carry out structural assessment, design and detailing in accordance with Eurocodes and DMRB standards
Undertake bridge inspections and produce associated technical reports
Deliver engineering solutions for highway structures projects
Work collaboratively with internal teams and local authority clients
Support the development and growth of the engineering team
Requirements
Strong experience in bridge design and structural analysis
Proven ability to prepare structural design calculations for highway structures
Knowledge of Eurocodes and DMRB standards
Experience carrying out structural inspections
Experience using structural design software such as TEDDS, STAAD or LUSAS
Strong communication and technical problem-solving skills
Desirable
Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards chartership
BICS accreditation or equivalent bridge inspection qualification
Experience working with local authority highways structures
