Senior / Principal Transport Planner - Major Projects – WSP (UK & Ireland)
At WSP we invite you to join our Transport and Mobility Planning Team as a Senior / Principal Transport Planner for major projects. This role offers flexibility in location and can be based at one of our WSP offices in Birmingham, Cardiff, Southampton, or London. Under our hybrid working policy you can combine in‑office work with remote working.
Responsibilities
* Undertake Transport Statements, Transport Assessments, Environmental Statement Transport Chapters, Construction Traffic Management Plans and Travel Plans, and other technical deliverables, including client and local authority scoping discussions.
* Lead technical discussions on accessibility of project and construction sites for various modes and articulate mitigation requirements to support planning approvals.
* Work in a multidisciplinary environment, proactively collaborating with adjacent disciplines such as noise and air quality, ecology, and highway teams.
* Take ownership of delegated tasks such as preparation of fee estimates and proposals for review by Project Managers and Directors.
* Upskill your knowledge to support other transport workstreams such as communications and engagement, fostering a sustainable and balanced workflow for the local team.
* Represent WSP values in a collaborative client/consultant environment.
* Keep up‑to‑date with relevant standards and policies, raise WSP’s profile by networking and attending conferences.
* Ensure projects are delivered within budget, programme, and required technical standards.
Qualifications
* Experience of scoping reports, transport assessments, and Environmental Statement Transport Chapters.
* Experience delivering transport planning projects and familiarity with relevant guidelines and standards.
* Familiarity with Local Authority Transport Plans and Strategies; experience in transport feasibility studies, option assessment reports and providing input into transport related business cases.
* Strong numerical, spatial, and analytical skills and excellent working knowledge of MS Office tools.
* Ability to produce high‑technical‑standard project reports and technical documents.
* Ability to communicate technical arguments to technical and non‑technical clients and present outputs to a range of audiences.
* Knowledge of current transport policy at sub‑regional, regional and national levels.
