The Security Department of the Rothschild Foundation is responsible for safeguarding the collection, historic and commercial properties, staff, and volunteers across the 5,500-acre Waddesdon Estate. Operating 24/7, the team manages the control room, responds to alarms and notifications from the Centralised Security System, double locks and unlocks buildings, and conducts routine patrols.
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Security Ranger at Waddesdon Manor, a historic French Renaissance-style château built in 1874 by Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild. The estate welcomes around 350,000 visitors annually and hosts a range of exhibitions, events, and educational programs. The Rothschild Foundation also manages a trading company, RWL, which runs catering and retail services, a private events business, a hotel (the Five Arrows), and a pub (the Bow) in Waddesdon village.
Role Overview
The Security Ranger (Night Shifts) will ensure the safety of Waddesdon property, staff, and residents. Working closely with the Head of Security & Transport (HOST), Deputy Head of Security (DHOS), and the Security Team, the SR will maintain security standards across the estate and manor grounds, resolve issues efficiently, and ensure public rights of way are respected. The SR may also support the wider security team by carrying out control room duties, including locking and unlocking buildings, patrolling, maintaining logs, and communicating relevant information.
Key Responsibilities
* Respond to security-related matters and incidents, taking ownership and appropriate action.
* Identify potential threats and escalate to the HOST and DHOS.
* Manage estate access and perimeter security.
* Patrol buildings and grounds, providing a visible security presence.
* Lock and unlock buildings as required.
* Liaise with external contractors during emergencies.
* Monitor alarms and CCTV, and support control room operations.
* Maintain security equipment and keys, complete documentation, and report maintenance issues.
* Participate in training and professional development.
* Conduct fire safety checks and report faults.
* Coordinate responses to first aid incidents.
* Report hazards and unsafe conditions, ensuring safety policies are followed.
* Perform daily vehicle checks and communicate with the control room at shift start.
Required Knowledge and Skills
* At least 4-5 years of security experience.
* Excellent attitude, willingness to learn, and interpersonal skills.
* Strong coordination, leadership, and time management skills.
* SIA Door Supervisor license or higher.
* Physical fitness and good communication skills.
* Computer literacy and understanding of OS maps, bylaws, and public order.
* Conflict management and personal protection skills are advantageous.
* Ability to risk assess dynamically and work outdoors for extended periods.
Additional Requirements
* DBS check may be required for safeguarding children, young people, and vulnerable adults.
* Full UK driving license.
Contract Details
Permanent, full-time, 42 hours per week, with night shifts including weekends. Shift pattern is planned and communicated in advance.
