Pay: £90–£105 per day (PAYE)

Some young people need a bit more support to feel safe, regulated, and ready to learn. This school is looking for someone who understands that, and can offer calm, consistency, and genuine care

We’re working with a supportive secondary school in Wakefield who are looking for a full-time SEN Teaching Assistant to support students with additional needs across KS3 and KS4. This is a long-term role where relationships matter just as much as routines.

You’ll be supporting students who may have autism, ADHD, SEMH needs, or communication difficulties, helping them navigate the school day and access learning in a way that works for them.

What you’ll be doing:

1. Supporting students with SEN on a 1:1 basis and in small groups

2. Helping young people stay engaged, regulated, and ready to learn

3. Supporting emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies

4. Working closely with class teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams

5. Encouraging independence, confidence, and resilience

6. Being a calm, reliable presence during challenging moments

This role is for you if you:

7. Have experience supporting young people with SEN or SEMH

8. Are calm under pressure and don’t take behaviour personally

9. Understand that behaviour is communication

10. Build trust through consistency and clear boundaries

11. Bring patience, empathy, and quiet confidence to your work

The school offers:

12. A strong SEN and pastoral support team

13. Clear systems and consistent behaviour approaches

14. Leadership that values and supports support staff

15. Students who genuinely benefit from the right adult support

What Protocol Education offers you:

16. Weekly pay through PAYE, no umbrella companies

17. FREE access to our online CPD Academy

18. A dedicated consultant who listens and supports you properly

19. Opportunities across mainstream, SEND, and alternative provisions

20. Straightforward, friendly registration

If you’re Thrive trained, that’s a real plus. If not, we can help you access FREE Thrive training, something many secondary schools value when supporting students’ emotional wellbeing.

If you’re looking for a full-time SEN role where you can make a real difference with young people who need it most, this could be a great fit.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQs on the Protocol Education website for further details.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
