Job Title: Collections Manager
Grade: £32,000 per annum
Responsible to: Operations Manager
Responsible for: Day-to-day management of collection operations, driver coordination, and ensuring smooth collection services from shops and collection sites.
Purpose of the Role
The Collections Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day running of all collection activities, including planning routes, managing drivers, and liaising with shops, suppliers, and collection points. This role ensures collections are completed efficiently, safely, and on time, while maintaining strong working relationships with internal teams and external partners.
The Collections Manager will also be encouraged to develop transport management skills, supporting the Transport Manager where needed and stepping up to cover during holidays or absence.
Key Responsibilities
Collections Operations
* Plan and allocate daily collection routes for drivers, ensuring efficiency and timely service.
* Act as the main point of contact for shops, suppliers, and collection sites regarding schedules and issues.
* Monitor daily progress of collections, resolving problems or delays quickly.
* Check collection paperwork and systems to ensure accuracy.
Driver & Team Coordination
* Brief drivers on daily routes and requirements, ensuring they have the right information and equipment.
* Maintain good communication with drivers throughout the day to handle changes or issues.
* Ensure drivers follow company policies and represent the company professionally.
* Support a positive and motivated driver team culture.
Customer & Stakeholder Service
* Build strong relationships with shops and collection sites, handling queries and resolving complaints promptly.
* Ensure collections meet service-level expectations.
* Report back to the Operations Manager on any recurring issues with sites, routes, or drivers.
Compliance & Safety
* Ensure drivers follow safe working practices and company procedures.
* Monitor vehicle checks and highlight any issues to the Transport Manager.
* Support compliance with O' Licence and health & safety requirements as directed.
Development & Support
* Learn and use transport planning systems (e.g. Cyrus, Ctrack) with training provided.
* Support the Transport Manager with admin, reporting, or planning when required.
* Step up to cover some Transport Manager duties during holidays or absence.
Skills & Experience
Essential:
* Experience in logistics, collections, or fleet coordination.
* Strong organisational skills with ability to plan routes and manage schedules.
* Good communication and relationship-building skills with drivers and external partners.
* Ability to stay calm and solve problems quickly under pressure.
* IT literacy (Microsoft Office, scheduling systems, or willingness to learn).
Desirable:
* Knowledge of transport compliance, O' Licence, and vehicle safety checks (training can be given).
* Experience with fleet or driver management systems.
