Main duties of the job
Duties
* Participate in all aspects of clinical operating department work
* Provide a high standard of patient care and safety in accordance with the NBT & UHBW philosophy and objectives, policies and legal requirements
* Ensure duties are carried out in accordance with the advisory guidelines and practice set out in the NMC/ HCPC code of conduct
* Be responsible for assessment, planning, provision, maintenance and evaluation of patient care
* Act as a role model, showing evidence of the specialist skills and knowledge to deliver prescribed treatment and care for patients in an individual and sensitive manner
* In the absence of a senior member of staff you will take charge of the clinical area and liaise with the multidisciplinary team to ensure coordinated care
Successful Applicants For This Role Will
* Hold RN or ODP Registration with current licence to practice
* Have experience working in a perioperative environment within the last 18-24 months
* Demonstrate drive, enthusiasm, and can commit to a two-week induction programme if successful
* Have Right to Work in the UK (with relevant Adaptation/ONP if applicable)

* Be competent in all aspects of the theatre practitioner role within the scope of anaesthetics, scrub or recovery
* Run theatre lists efficiently following policies and procedures
* Participate in safety procedures including safety briefings and checklists
* Contribute to effective patient flow by progressing treatment and safe/discharge or transfer
* Communicate effectively with patients, carers and the multidisciplinary team
* Work as a skilled member of the perioperative team and assess care in the operating theatre and related areas
* Manage allocated resources within the department and assist with planning daily allocation
* Care for and maintain instrumentation, equipment, and consumables; inform on stock/equipment requirements
* Take action regarding faulty equipment per Trust policy and assist with new equipment training
* Ensure the department is clean, organized, and stocked
* Supervise junior and unqualified colleagues and provide specialist knowledge
* Support Theatre Managers in developing policies and standards for safe equipment use

Education/ Training/ Qualifications
Essential criteria
* Registered Nurse or ODP with current live NMC/ HCPC registration
* Evidence of ongoing professional development
* Attained competencies in Anaesthetics/ Scrub/ Recovery roles
* Desirable criteria: Teaching and assessing qualification or willingness to undertake after 2 years post registration; perioperative modules or Surgical First Assistant
Work Experience
* Essential: Experience in a perioperative environment within the last 18-24 months
* Desirable: Experience across a range of surgical specialties
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
* Advanced communication skills, verbal & written
* Basic computer/IT skills with willingness to develop
* Excellent organisational skills and problem-solving under pressure
* Knowledge of NMC/ HCPC codes of conduct
* Ability to organise workload and time management
