Community Engagement Worker, Part Time: 30 hours, Fixed Term (12 Months), Based at Ashfield Fire Station with travel across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire

Are you a committed youth or community worker or volunteer with a passion to make a difference with communities? Do you have the skills, experience and good understanding/knowledge of the cultural/religious barriers to reach underrepresented communities in accessing services and jobs at NFRS?

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service (NFRS) want to make sure our services and roles are accessible and understood by all so we are seeking a Community Engagement Worker to work alongside Firefighters and Community Engagement Officers already in the Community Safety Team. This varied and public focused role offers the successful candidate the opportunity to make a significant impact in our communities by partnering with community organisations to deliver support to both vulnerable and underrepresented groups.

The role will facilitate ‘Have a Go Days’ to support recruitment and deliver events and careers fairs. Successful candidates will undertake comprehensive training and be able to lead sessions on fire, water and road safety.

The successful candidate will need to be available to work on Tuesdays, however, there will be flexibility with other working days.

Key Responsibilities:

* Proactively engage with community and youth groups; building trust and confidence in NFRS, through regular attendance, relationship building and development of joint initiatives.
* Deliver education packages around key community safety risks in community groups, colleges and universities.
* Attend and set up vehicles and stalls at community events to engage community members on themes such as fire, water and road safety as well as careers at NFRS.
* Develop partnerships with key community groups – supporting them to deliver services which make communities safer.
* Work closely with Response to mitigate known risks in specific locations or buildings through support to local engagement events and following serious incidents.
* Work closely with Protection colleagues to improve fire safety and knowledge in the management of buildings, charities and businesses.
* Work collaboratively with partners across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire to improve community safety.

Experience/Qualification:

* Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to talk to members of the public.
* Experience working and communicating with the public and partner organisations.
* Have the ability to work as part of a team as well as independently.
* Experience of delivering presentations or education packages.
* Have a good understanding of the barriers facing some communities in accessing services and jobs at NFRS.
* Experience of setting up and running stalls at evening and weekends so as to be able to support community and youth group sessions.

NFRS is an equal opportunities employer and welcomes applications from all sections of the community.
