Emotional Wellbeing Support Location: South Shields Working hours: 8:30am – 4:30pm (Monday to Friday) Temporary, long term, immediate start Leader Education are seeking a passionate Emotional Wellbeing Support Assistant to join a dedicated and resilient team. The school is a specialist secondary Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) that provides a supportive and nurturing environment for students who are unable to access mainstream education. This includes pupils who have been permanently excluded or are at risk of exclusion, students experiencing anxiety or personal challenges affecting their attendance, and young people who are new to the area with identified Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). In this role, you will provide meaningful, tailored support to students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, working both on a one-to-one basis and with small groups to help them feel safe, understood and ready to learn. A key part of your role will involve helping young people develop healthy coping strategies and emotional regulation skills, guiding them to manage their feelings in a positive and constructive way. You will deliver personalised interventions that respond to each student’s individual needs, while building strong, professional relationships based on trust, consistency and respect. Through encouragement, patience and positive reinforcement, you will support students to rebuild their confidence and gradually re-engage with learning and classroom activities. The role also requires the ability to remain calm and composed when faced with challenging behaviour, using de-escalation techniques to support students through difficult moments. Working closely with teachers, SENCOs and external professionals, you will contribute to a collaborative and holistic approach to student wellbeing. Alongside this, you will play an important role in monitoring and recording progress, behaviour and wellbeing, helping the team to track positive outcomes and ensure that every student receives the support they need to move forward successfully.
