An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our dynamic and innovative Heart failure team at the Royal Wolverhampton Hospital NHS Trust for a one‑year fixed‑term locum consultant post. The post holder will, in conjunction with consultant and senior colleagues, provide general cardiology, heart failure in‑reach, heart failure clinics and MDTs, and play a full part in the out‑of‑hours on‑call service for the department.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for a heart failure consultant cardiologist to work as part of our team. The successful applicant will be part of a 1:17 week cardiology ward weekday on‑call rota when normal activities are cancelled, will perform heart failure in‑reach to the wider medical wards in rotation with other consultants, and will contribute to MDTs and the cardio‑oncology service.
It is anticipated that an average of 10–12 patients will be seen by the post holder per clinic, a mixture of new and review cases. The post holder will also take part in cardiology ward cover, spending one week per 1:17 week based on the ward and on‑call for ward patients. There are 43 beds on the cardiology ward.
The ward on‑call and the emergency PCI on‑call rotas have been separated, and weekend ward rounds are undertaken by non‑PCI consultants to enable the PCI consultant to focus on PCI. The on‑call elements of this post will be discussed after appointment and reflected in the agreed job plan with the individual. In line with Royal College of Physicians guidance, discussions will include the option of time off in lieu or additional duties being paid.
