The Opportunity
This post presents an opportunity for a dynamic and enthusiastic student on the Urban Planning Course at Loughborough University to take an internship in a busy local planning authority during the year out phase of their course. The post holder will support officers in the processing of planning applications, the preparation of planning policies and other planning work including enforcement. Your time will be split between two Groups in the service learning how the planning authority discharges its functions and works with elected representatives and the public. The role will also provide you with experience of working with a variety of teams across Council Services as well as external partners and stakeholders.

We will offer you varied and plentiful experience in a busy planning office, liaising with a variety of stakeholders to effectively achieve Charnwood's aims of supporting sustainable growth.
Who are we looking for?
We are seeking a dynamic, motivated and organised person with an ability to learn quickly and apply their knowledge effectively in a supportive learning environment. You will need to be a team player with a positive approach, willing to contribute to the delivery of excellent customer service. You must be registered on the BSC (Hons) Urban Planning Course at Loughborough University and be considering an internship starting in October 2026 to apply.
