Social Worker – Children in Care

About the Role
Walsall Council is seeking experienced Children in Care Social Workers to join our committed and supportive Children's Services team. This is an exciting opportunity to make a lasting difference to the lives of children and young people in care while working for a council that values innovation, reflection, and collaboration.
You will carry a manageable caseload of looked after children, ensuring they receive the highest quality of care and support. You'll work closely with children, carers, families, and multi‑agency partners to achieve the best possible outcomes, with a strong focus on permanency, stability, and emotional wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage a caseload of Looked After Children (LAC) and ensure their needs are met through high‑quality assessments, planning, and reviews.
* Build strong, trusting relationships with children and young people to promote stability and positive identity.
* Prepare and present reports for Looked After Reviews, Court, and Permanency Panels.
* Work in partnership with foster carers, IROs, health, and education professionals to achieve the best outcomes.
* Support care leavers through transition planning into independence and adult services.
* Promote the voice of the child and ensure they are central to all decision‑making.
About You
We are looking for passionate and skilled social workers who are committed to achieving positive outcomes for children in care.
Essential Requirements
* Qualified Social Worker with registration to Social Work England.
* Minimum 3 years post‑qualified experience within a statutory Children in Care / LAC / Safeguarding.
* Proven ability to write analytical reports and court statements to a high standard.
* Excellent communication, relationship‑building, and organisational skills.
* Current Enhanced DBS and full UK driving licence.
