The Medical and Acute Assessment Unit (AAU) is a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment where patients are assessed and treated for a wide range of acute medical conditions. The unit plays a critical role in the early stages of patient care, often serving as the first point of contact for individuals referred from the Urgent Care Centre, GPs, or other healthcare providers.
What you'll be doing
In this role, you will responsibility for ensuring a safe, efficient clinical service with the assistance of the clinical leads and ensure a continued and progressive service at all times. You’ll welcome all patients, visitors and consultants to the department in a professional, friendly, courteous and helpful manner, to assist in their patient care and provide the highest standard of customer care. You will need to ensure costs are entered correctly and patients charged accordingly using the hospital system and have an efficient telephone manner in order to take and give accurate information.
What’s a typical day?
A typical day will be to liaise regularly with Reservation and the Accounts Department to ensure a smooth flow of admissions, ensuring patient payments are in order prior to admitting to Unit. To assist in the Pre-Admission process and take responsibility for obtaining cover on all sponsored cases, updating the Compucare records, referring and following up on queries as necessary. You’ll also assist Patient Accounts by explaining financial agreements for guaranteed/sponsored and insured day cases and obtaining signed agreement and co-ordinate department activities, including patient and referrer liaison tasks. You’ll also need to liaise with patients and referrers regarding clinical procedures and investigations and ensure they are appropriately informed of precautions/risks and handle all minor complaints with immediate action and follow up to prevent reoccurrence.

9. Excellent organisational skills.
Working Hours:
This position operates on a rotating two-week schedule:
10. Week 1 & 2: Monday to Friday, 07:30 – 16:30
11. Week 3 & 4: Monday to Friday, 12:00 – 20:30
