RINA is currently recruiting for a Power System Design Manager to join its office in Manchester within the Consulting Country UK Division.
Overview
The Power System Design Team Manager will be a member of the RINA UK Engineering Team and will contribute towards the effective execution of engineering functions within projects and tenders. The team manager will lead a skilled team on a wide range of international T&D substation projects, managing approximately 15 staff including permanent and contractor consultants. The role focuses on project and tender engineering, particularly in HV substation design and construction, ensuring compliance with customer needs, legislative demands, and standards.
The work will involve delivering Conceptual / Feasibility Studies and Design, System Studies, Protection, and Substation Design projects globally.
Responsibilities
* Provide technical solutions for substations, including single line diagrams, technical information, layouts, and detailed drawings, adhering to applicable standards, processes, and customer specifications, utilizing resources locally and in other business units.
* Develop technical concepts, specifications, select equipment and connection materials considering costs, quality, standards, and materials.
* Provide technical calculations, purchasing specifications, and schedules for project or tender equipment.
* Prepare bills of quantities, cost estimates, deviations, and clarifications for technical solutions.
* Lead technical aspects of large and complex EHV/HV Air & Gas Insulated Substation (AIS & GIS) proposals and projects.
* Lead and expand the Design team.
Required Experience
* At least 10 years' experience in Transmission & Distribution Engineering, with proven people management skills.
* Deep understanding of the Transmission & Distribution market.
* Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field.
* Experience in power system design up to 132kV, preferably up to 400kV, across various projects for industrial, distribution, and transmission networks, including Conceptual/Feasibility Studies, System Studies, Protection, and Substation Design.
* Knowledge of legislative requirements and standards.
* Proficiency with simulation software and electrical circuit modeling tools.
* Knowledge of system studies like load flow, short circuit calculations, insulation coordination; familiarity with Single Line Diagrams, CT/VT calculations, Auxiliary Power Systems, and power cables.
