NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

The post holder is expected to work within a large team 2.5 days across Monday- Friday ; 18.5 hrs per week( Reduced working week as per 2025) to meet the needs of the service.

Shift pattern is Tues Wed week 1 and Tues Wed Thurs Week 2- 830-430 and Thurs 830-4.00.

Please note the salary is Pro Rata for part time hours.

This post is an opportunity for a Band 5 NMC registered Nurse to join The South Glasgow City School Nursing Team as a Community staff nurse. Working out of Pollok Health Centre, the successful candidate must have NMC Registration RM/RMN and may also have additional qualifications or experience working within Children or Mental health services and have an interest in pursuing the SCPHN; Masters qualification in Public Health (School Nurse).

The Band 5 staff nurse will complete work delegated and supervised by the Band 6 School Nurse in accordance with the needs of the service and in line with the national pathways. Whilst consulting with the School Nurse to assess, monitor and implement action; the Staff Nurse will exercise a level of autonomy and independence in decision making. Workload will involve completing delegated interventions in response to identified health and emotional needs in the context of Getting It Right for Every Child (GIRFEC). This will include the ability to recognise, mitigate and respond to risk factors for harm and neglect, with guidance from the School Nurse and the wider organisations Policies /Guidance and training requirements.

The staff Nurse will also be responsible for ensuring contemporaneous accurate record keeping and referring to other services where appropriate. As an NMC registrant, the Staff Nurse maintains accountability for updating own knowledge and practical skills to deliver safe practice and considers own limitations in provision of clinical care. The role will require you to work within a skill mix team and take delegation from the SCPHN School Nurses to carry out face to face and non-face-to-face work without direct supervision with key responsibilities around caseload and intervention work with children and young people who are referred to the Service.

There will be opportunities for further learning and development as part of the Transforming Nursing roles strategy as well as the Learning and Development Plan for GGC. Knowledge and Skills in relation to emotional health and wellbeing are desirable including anxiety management work ( Lets introduce Anxiety Management) as well as Child Protection knowledge and skills and there will be peer support as well as professional and operational support from an aligned Team leader. Skills and knowledge for the role of the Practice supervisor and assessor for pre-registration students is also required but this can be supported via in house training as well as further learning to support ScPHN students.

The successful candidate must have NMC Registration RM/RMN, Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (School Nurse) qualification which is Part 3 of the NMC Specialist register, Disclosure Scotland (PVG) and any additional post graduate qualification and skills. It would be advantageous to have a driving licence due to face to face work within the community, schools and homes but is not essential
