LeedsTeaching Hospitals is seeking a very experienced, highly motivated andproactive orthoptist who will work well as part of a multi-disciplinary teamfor a rare opportunity to join the senior orthoptic team for a part time(0.5WTE / 18.75hrs) 8a post. You will support the Head Orthoptist in a rangeof management activities and provide clinical leadership to the orthopticteam. You will have a proven track of undertaking in depth orthopticassessment and management of highly complex orthoptic patients. Ideally youwill have an interest in patients with learning disability.
Main duties of the job
Thesuccessful candidate will have a varied caseload including stand aloneorthoptic clinics, joint clinics with optometry, joint clinics withconsultants with referrals from a wide range of sources internally andexternally.
Experienceof clinical supervision and assessment is essential. We are an accrediteddepartment for pre-registration orthoptic students typically taking 8placements a year. We are involved in the teaching of residents inophthalmology, pre-registration optometrists, student nurses and medicalstudents.
Youwill assist the Head Orthoptist in staffing, supporting delivery of activityand leave management, patient experience and continued quality improvement. Akey part of the role will be fostering a positive and inclusive culture thatsupports learning, accountability and staff wellbeing.
Youwill be expected to undertake audit and service improvement projects. Theremay be opportunity for research.
About us
Weare a team of 16 orthoptists and 3 paediatric ophthalmologists /strabismologists with support from consultant oculo-plastics, retinal andcorneal. A number of optometrists provide paediatric refraction, contact lensand low vision clinics plus complex adult refraction for motility patients.We also have some dedicated psychology sessions.
TheOrthoptic and Children's Eye Clinic is based on the St James's UniversityHospital site in a dedicated unit in the Multispecialty Outpatients building.You may be required to undertake day sessions in Health Centres aroundLeeds so the ability to travel is essential.
OurEye Clinic is spread across a number of hospitals with 30 consultantscovering all sub-specialities. We also work with a number of otherSpecialties across our Hospitals.
