The Claims Manager is responsible for liaising with Members in respect of handling professional indemnity claims against construction professionals. You will be attending meetings, mediations, hearings etc with Members and solicitors as well as providing liability advice to Members. You will be joining a team of 17 solicitors and legal executives. Together you will assist Wren’s Members to be appointed on terms falling within their cover and handle any resulting claims.
Your Responsibilities
* Complex Claims Handling: Managing a portfolio of high-value professional liability claims (design issues, structural failures, breach of contract etc) and reporting to Divisional Director Head of Claims
* Stakeholder Management: Maintain strong relationships with Members in respect of claims and provide proactive assistance where possible
* Litigation Management: Instructing and managing approved external legal advisors and experts to develop cost effective, strategic defences for litigated matters to include attending meetings, participating in mediations, arbitrations and settlement conferences.
* Claims Reserving: Perform timely and accurate reserving of claims in line with Wren Procedures Manual
* Financial Control: Manage claim budgets, review and authorise invoice/claims payments.
* Investigation & Liability Assessment: Conduct thorough investigations to determine liability at an early stage and provide advice to Members
* Coverage Analysis: Interpret policy wording to determine issues of coverage applicability for consideration by the Claims Director/Managing Director
* Underwriting Support: Provide feedback to the Underwriting and Actuarial teams on claims trends and emerging risks

About You
Experience
* Proven experience in handling own caseload of professional liability, or construction-related claims preferably gained from within a law firm or other in-house legal teams
* Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of professional indemnity, policy language, and the legal principles of negligence.
* Legal Knowledge: Familiarity with contract law, civil procedure rules, and construction law.
Qualifications/Education
* Legally qualified in the UK or QLTT with a minimum of 7 years PQE
* Service Focused – ability to provide a professional service
* Communication – Excellent written and verbal skills with the ability to assimilate information quickly, establish key issues and express them clearly and succinctly in correspondence and orally
* Reliability – ability to deliver what is asked for and to work to deadlines
* Influencing / Negotiating – ability to influence and persuade people at all levels and to negotiate on behalf of Members to ensure the best outcome possible
