Job Description:
Torftech is a design engineering and intellectual property business that earns income from licensing and selling its proprietary TORBED and TORWAVE processors (www.torftech.com). Widely used in the food, mineral, and waste industries for a range of processes from gas scrubbing to calcination, these are gas-solid contacting devices designed to intensify processes and thereby increase efficiency. In the case of the TORWAVE, this allows presentation of materials to microwaves in a manner that overcomes traditional obstacles. Our machines facilitate hydrocarbon substitution, waste recycling, and efficient energy use, placing us at and beyond the cutting edge as we seek to “green” industrial processes. We are a small, close-knit team characterized by curiosity and intellectual rigor. Growing business volumes mean we are now looking to expand. We offer competitive remuneration and an opportunity to work with expanding technology.
Senior Mechanical Engineer
Due to an impending retirement, we are looking for an experienced mechanical engineer to shadow and eventually succeed our current senior mechanical engineer. Candidates should have at least 10 years of experience with high-temperature industrial process plant and materials handling, including high-temperature refractory design and installation. Reporting to the managing director, you will be able to work independently (after familiarization with our technologies) and eventually take responsibility for the mechanical engineering function within the group. Mechanical engineering within Torftech involves work ranging from conceptual process design, to drawing and design prior to manufacture, to installation, commissioning, and maintenance of existing plant. Key prerequisites include intellectual rigor, technical knowledge, good communication skills, and the ability to manage and collaborate. This hands-on role will encompass:
* CAD drawing using Inventor at conceptual and pre-manufacture stages
* Review of fabricators’ manufacturing drawings for quality control
* Fault diagnosis and rectification
* Implementation of maintenance and spares supplies
* Testing on the group’s pilot plants
* Managing the mechanical engineering function
* Liaison with suppliers for component and fabrication quality
* Supporting the ordering process as required
Required Qualifications and Skills:
* Good degree in Engineering or a related discipline
* Practical experience in mechanical or process engineering, especially in thermal processes and materials handling
* Interest in gas/solid processing
* Familiarity with Microsoft Office
* Ability to work remotely
* Valid UK residence and work permits
