Introduction
We have a vacancy for an Engineer to join the Product Development team working within our Sensors and Specialist Components business. The ideal candidate will have experience developing hybrid microelectronic assemblies, although we would consider candidates with relevant experience who aspire to work in this exciting sector. In this role you will design and develop product solutions that incorporate semiconductor devices. Working as part of the wider engineering team you will be involved in a wide range of projects spanning R&D, development and NPI.
The successful candidate will be responsible for designing products while adhering to the company NPI process. You will also sustain and improve existing products lines, including yield improvements and cost reduction, whilst providing technical support within the Engineering Department.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting directly to the Engineering Manager, key duties and responsibilities will include: -
1. Plan and execute the introduction of new products in accordance with the NPI procedure, through concept, design & development and into the operational production phases
2. Aerospace & Industrial Semiconductor product design, including semiconductor selection; Discrete, Hybrid or Power Module packaging; electrical; mechanical and thermal design; design for manufacture and high reliability application requirements.
3. Creation of procurement and manufacturing drawings and specifications
4. Preparation of design and solution reports with costing estimates to support NPI projects
5. Work with the sales and business development team in the support of new business opportunities.
6. Support existing product lines and processes throughout the entire life cycle.
7. Support the execution of the business strategic plan and keep abreast of new technologies and business opportunities.
8. Ensure safe working practices are adopted and health and safety legislation are adhered to when implementing new products, materials processes, or equipment.
9. On occasion, this role may require visits to customers or suppliers and may also involve foreign travel.
Qualifications, Skills and Attributes
Core Requirements
10. Experience in both mechanical & electronics CAD design and performing thermal, mechanical, and electrical simulations
11. Knowledge of common Semiconductor devices (MOSFET, IGBT, Diodes, Bipolar Transistors etc) and Silicon / SiC / GaN technologies and performance requirements
12. Knowledge or experience working with common semiconductor packaging materials
13. Experience in Design of Experiments, 8D and data analysis
14. Ability to build strong relationships and communicate effectively at all levels.
15. Demonstrated organisational, planning and program skills with careful attention to detail.
16. Have a strong technical bias, with strong problem-solving abilities.
17. Work well under pressure to meet strict deadlines.
18. A good level of competence with MS Office applications for documentation and presenting reports.
Desirable Skills and Experience
19. A Degree, or HND/HNC with equivalent experience, in an engineering discipline
20. Demonstrable experience in the electronics industry, ideally in a manufacturing environment
21. Knowledge of lean manufacturing tools and statistical process techniques
22. Familiarity with Mil standard and design for high reliability environments
