Working as a Prisoner Custody Officer (PCO) in Prisoner Escort Custody Services (PECS) is more than just a role—it’s an opportunity to be part of a professional team that plays a vital role in the justice system, ensuring safety and security every day. We also offer:

We operate 24/6 with various early and late shifts, 35hrs pw. Flexibility is essential, with different working arrangements and additional hours. Rota schedules are provided 12 weeks in advance to help you plan your time off.
About the Role:
As a PCO at our court, you’ll work in a team to provide safe custody and escort services, focusing on detainee wellbeing. Responsibilities include:
* Escorting defendants within court premises, including to and from courtrooms, cells, and other areas, with security measures such as handcuffs when necessary.
* Monitoring detainees in court, ensuring security and safety.
* Handling sensitive information with discretion, maintaining professionalism, and supporting detainees emotionally.
* Providing access to food and drink, respecting dietary needs.
* Monitoring health and reporting concerns.
* Ensuring safety, responding to incidents, conducting searches.
* Completing accurate paperwork and data entry.
* Collaborating with court staff, law enforcement, and legal professionals.
Requirements:
No prior experience is necessary; we value commitment and willingness to learn. Training lasts 5.5 weeks. A valid driver’s license, good communication skills, and physical fitness are desirable. The role requires responsibility, vigilance, and professionalism, with an interest in criminology or psychology being advantageous.
Assessment Process:
Briefing call → Virtual competency interview → Role-play and written exercise.
Additional Info:
Roles are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, and employment is subject to enhanced DBS checks and references. This role does not qualify for Skilled Worker visa sponsorship. Eligibility criteria include:
* At least two years remaining on your current visa.
* One year of residence in the UK, with a vetting process involving a recognized professional.
