Overview

Sheffield & Rotherham Wildlife Trust is an independent environmental charity governed by a Board of Trustees. The post is based at the Trust’s main office with blended working (home and office) and travel to project sites around Sheffield, Rotherham and beyond. The post is funded until the end of March 2026, with further funding for this and other posts currently being developed.

We work to increase woodland creation and support nature recovery across South Yorkshire via the South Yorkshire Woodland Partnership and related campaigns. The role contributes primarily to increasing woodland cover by 250ha in South Yorkshire by providing technical and administrative support to the Programme Team. It will also support other projects as they arise.


Responsibilities

* Coordinate and update the Project Pipeline to track progress on casework across the team; report progress to the Programme Manager and Steering Group.
* Respond to and collate enquiries for woodland creation and other projects to pass to the SYWP delivery team.
* Develop and manage a list of potential landowners, arrange meetings and events, and manage contacts and customer relations.
* Establish and maintain a database/system for case files to ensure leads and opportunities are followed up and progressed.
* Prepare and collate data to support grant submissions, applications and claims for woodland creation schemes; assist partners and landowners as needed.
* Monitor and update relevant budgets and support the Programme Manager with data collection and reports for funders and partners (eg TCAF, SYMCA).
* Set up templates and procedures to support the Delivery Team, ensuring GDPR and SRWT policy compliance.
* Support statutory consultations on woodland creation (eg Natural England, Archaeological Services, Biological Records Centres) as part of EIA processes; submit forms/applications and monitor progress.
* Liaise with the GIS Support Officer to obtain site maps and plans and update project progress.
* Review and update online tools to perform desk-based assessments of sites for woodland creation and prepare data for grant applications and client documents.
* Provide general office administration: respond to inquiries, support meetings, manage budgets, process invoices and purchase orders, and maintain equipment inventory.
* Promote the Trust’s objectives and assist with other duties as required; promote Trust membership where appropriate.
* Represent the organization professionally to landowners, partners and the public; travel and occasional site visits will be required.


Qualifications and Skills

* 2 years’ experience in a similar role; Level 3 or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject.
* Strong data management, organisational skills, and attention to detail; experience in taking minutes, preparing reports and purchase orders.
* Positive, flexible, creative, and able to respond to opportunities and stakeholders; committed to woodland creation.
* Experience in office coordination; responding to inquiries from landowners, the public, partners.
* Ability to work as part of a team and meet deadlines; experience in data collation, report writing or form filling, and processing POs and invoices.
* Driving license or ability to travel to sites across SY.
* Understanding of woodland creation and a willingness to learn; good IT skills (Google Suite, Microsoft, Zoom) and strong office systems knowledge.
* Excellent verbal and written communication; strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.


Salary and Benefits

Salary: £25,857 per annum (full-time) or £15,514.20 at 0.6 FTE (pro rata). Pension: automatic enrollment with employer contributions; 8% minimum level after probation, rising to 9% after six months’ service. Holiday: 31 days including Christmas/New Year, pro rata for part-time staff. Probationary period: 6 months. Length of contract: Fixed term to 31 March 2026 (may be extended subject to funding). Working hours: 22.5 hours per week; some evenings/weekends with time off in lieu; flexitime possible at line manager’s discretion.
