Job Title: Analytical Chemist
Location: Ellesmere Port
Contract: Temporary (approx. 6 months, strong potential for permanent role)
Salary: Up to £35,000 (dependent on experience)
OVERVIEW
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Analytical Chemist to join a specialist materials organisation during a period of growth. This role will support both manufacturing operations and product development activities, working closely with production, R&D, and technical teams.
This position is ideal for a hands-on chemist with strong industrial laboratory experience and a background in elemental analysis.
KEY RESPONSIBILITY
Laboratory Operations
* Provide analytical support to manufacturing and R&D activities
* Deliver accurate and timely analytical services for internal stakeholders
Analytical Techniques & Instrumentation
* Elemental analysis using LECO (essential) and ICP-OES (highly desirable)
* Exposure to techniques such as:
* Optical microscopy / SEM-EDX
* XRD
* Physical testing (particle size distribution, thickness measurements, etc.)
Method Development
* Support continuous improvement of existing analytical methods
* Assist with development and validation of new methods
Documentation & Quality
* Maintain clear, accurate records for sample preparation and analysis
* Ensure traceability and data integrity in line with quality standards
* Work in accordance with internal quality procedures (ISO 17025 experience desirable)
Collaboration & Workflow
* Liaise with Production and R&D teams to prioritise analytical workloads
* Support efficient and cost-effective use of laboratory resources
Health, Safety & Housekeeping
* Adhere to health and safety procedures and PPE requirements
* Maintain a clean, organised, and professional laboratory environment
* Manage reagent stock levels and safe handling of hazardous materials
MANDATORY REQUIRMENT
* Previous industrial laboratory experience
* Hands-on experience with LECO testing
* ICP experience strongly preferred
* Backgrounds from metals, waste, or agrochemicals are particularly relevant
