Senior Civil Engineer – Highways & Drainage (Section 278 / 38) Braintree, Essex Multi-Disciplinary Property & Construction Consultancy Up to £55,000 per annum (DOE) Full-Time | Permanent About the Role A leading UK-based consultancy is seeking an experienced Senior Civil Engineer to join its Civil Engineering team in Braintree. The role focuses on the design and delivery of highways and drainage infrastructure across commercial, education, and mixed-use developments. You’ll take technical and managerial responsibility for key projects, mentor junior staff, and ensure successful delivery from concept through completion. Key Responsibilities Lead detailed design of highways and drainage schemes in line with UK standards. Prepare technical submissions for Section 278 and Section 38 agreements. Produce detailed 3D models and drawings using AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroDrainage, or Causeway Flow. Liaise with clients, local authorities, and statutory bodies. Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior engineers and technicians. Manage workload and project delivery within agreed budgets and timeframes. About You Minimum 10 years’ experience in civil engineering design. Strong background in highways and drainage design for development infrastructure. Thorough knowledge of Section 278 / 38 processes. Proficient in Civil 3D and MicroDrainage / Causeway Flow. Familiar with current standards (DMRB, SuDS, Sewers for Adoption). Excellent communication and coordination skills. Desirable: Chartered or working towards CEng / IEng (ICE). Experience mentoring and managing junior staff. What’s on Offer Salary up to £55,000, depending on experience.
