The Role
To act as the custodian of the drainage for their respective area and will be responsible for improving the overall performance in collaboration with their respective Drainage Performance Engineer including monitoring operational spend and deciding on most cost‑effective solution, to enable proper network management. To ensure reactive resolution and customer satisfaction identifying high risk needs which require further focus to prevent repeat. To champion resolution (within reason) to significantly reduce the volume of reactive work currently undertaken in their area. In order to do this the Drainage Delivery Engineer will have to understand the day‑to‑day reactive work being undertaken in the Drainage area to drive improvement and prompt resolution, as well as working in collaboration with the Drainage Performance Engineer suggesting analysis of a range of performance / predictive data to proactively manage the network and enable proper network management.
Accountabilities & Responsibilities
* Ensure full compliance and safe operation of the wastewater network by following all wastewater policies, regulatory requirements, health & safety procedures, and acting the Responsible Person for H&S matters.
* Improve network performance and reduce incidents by providing technical input into planned works, identifying repeat issues, delivering interventions (including FOG and behavioural campaigns), assessing incidents, and ensuring accurate regulatory and operational data recording.
* Lead operational response and incident management, including reactive work on the drainage network, acting as Forward Incident Controller during major events, contributing to significant event reports, and keeping pollution risk and sewer record systems updated.
* Provide technical support, leadership and coordination, offering day‑to‑day guidance to field teams, ensuring efficient team operations, monitoring M&E asset availability, and supporting drainage planning when required.
* Manage stakeholder relationships and communication, acting as focal point for internal/external stakeholders, reducing customer complaints, improving satisfaction (including SIM performance), and drafting responses for customers, MPs, councillors, and key partners.
What we are looking for
* Strong technical knowledge of wastewater networks, including sewer operations, maintenance techniques, wastewater treatment sites, relevant policies, procedures, and sewerage law.
* Solid understanding of health & safety requirements, operational planning capability, and possession of a full UK driving licence.
* Excellent customer service and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to communicate, influence, and build strong relationships internally and externally.
* Strong analytical, commercial and problem‑solving abilities, including budget awareness and cost‑estimating capability.
* Proficient IT, reporting and presentation skills, combined with effective team working and understanding of IT systems.
