Purpose of the Role The Exploration Geologist is a key member of our exploration team and plays a pivotal role in the discovery and assessment of mineral resources. Reporting to the Senior Exploration Project Geologist, this position involves conducting geological fieldwork, collecting and analyzing samples, and contributing to the overall success of our exploration projects. Location: On-site, SENISA, Mauritania (Rotation Schedule) Key Areas of Responsibility and Duties Includes but not limited to: • Fieldwork and Geological Surveys: Conduct geological fieldwork, including mapping, sample collection, and site evaluations, to identify potential mineral deposits and geological features. • Sample Analysis: Collect, prepare, and analyze geological samples, including rock, soil, and core samples, using various laboratory techniques and equipment. • Data Interpretation: Interpret geological data, including drill core logs, geophysical data, and geological maps, to identify mineralization trends and geological structures. • Mineral Resource Assessment: Contribute to the estimation and assessment of mineral resources, including resource modeling and estimation of ore reserves. • GIS and Mapping: Utilize Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and mapping software to create and update geological maps and models. • Report Preparation: Prepare technical reports, presentations, and documentation to communicate geological findings and exploration progress to project stakeholders. • Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including geophysicists, environmental specialists, and drilling crews, to ensure coordinated exploration activities. • Safety and Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols, environmental regulations, and industry best practices to maintain a safe and responsible working environment. • Continuous Learning: Stay updated on industry advancements and geological techniques to enhance exploration efficiency and effectiveness. Sustainability Expectations • Participate in developing policies and procedures relating to safety, the environment and individual, and Exploration Department development. • Ensure that direct reports and respective work areas are in compliance with Health and Safety policies and regulations. • Ensure direct reports have the necessary training, skills, knowledge, and tools to do their jobs safely. Provide support to all areas on issues that jointly involve production and safety. • Observe operations to detect the violation of safety regulations and compiles safety and production records. • Assist in accident and incident investigations and ensures that recommendations are implemented by agreed upon dates. • Wear PPE at all times while in the working environment. Report and correct unsafe working conditions. Follow operating procedures and comply with all regulatory requirements Scope of Responsibility & Complexity • Work is technical and complex and involves non-routine and advanced technical assignments. • Work is performed under limited direction according to broad guidelines. • Problem resolution involves using judgement to adapt and apply procedures to address and resolve unusual problem situations. • Outcomes are reviewed in terms of adherence to general policies, accuracy of methods, and general efficiency. • Ensure quality standards are upheld in their field of specialization. Minimum Qualifications & Skill Requirements Mandatory skills and requirements for this position: • Bachelor's degree in Geology or a related field (Master's degree preferred). • Three to five years' experience in geological fieldwork, data collection, and analysis. • Understanding of Archean greenstone gold deposits and working with multiple data sets to identify new targets. • Knowledge drill methods, 3D software, drill program control, geochemistry and geophysics applications, and construction of geologic models, geologic map and cross-section construction. • Proficiency in geological software, GIS, and data analysis tools. • Ability to understand and interpret large multiple geological, geochemistry and geophysics datasets. • Understanding of QA/QC protocols and procedures that meet industry standards • Strong knowledge of geological mapping techniques and mineral exploration methods. • Strong Field orientation, and knowledge on drill holes logging (Diamond and Reverse circulation), surface mapping and sampling. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving abilities. • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. • Commitment to safety and environmental responsibility Desirable Skill, Knowledge, Training, and Experience: • A four year university bachelor's degree in Geology • Additional specialized education of up to 4 years • Formal professional or technical designation in appropriate area of expertise • Sound understanding of area of expertise. • Ability to function within the qualifications outlined in the attached physical demands sheets. • Micromine or Leapfrog and Mapinfo or ArcGIS software knowledges are preferred, as well as various database programs including AcQuire or Fusion Software.
