We have an opportunity for a professional driver to join RAF Coningsby's Mechanical Transport (MT) Flight. The vacancy is for a Skill Zone 3 Civilian Driver who will be involved in a variety of tasks providing essential passenger and freight transport support to RAF Coningsby and its associated Units. RAF Coningsby is a key part of the Air Command Typhoon Force, providing tactical control and combat of the UK airspace.
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week., Primary duties to include, operation of Category B, C+E, C, D1 and D vehicles as part of daily tasking, also to include domestic site operations and aircraft refuelling duties. Conduct daily vehicle inspections and vehicle husbandry on the MT fleet as required. Responsible for loading and restraint and freight handling in line with the Code of Practice and military policy.
There will be a requirement to undertake shift work for which appropriate payment will be made. Duties will include operation of electronic transport management systems and associated IT. The role will be required to deputise for the transport supervisor; hence a good knowledge of Microsoft applications is an advantage. There may be a requirement to support detachments away from normal operating base and a requirement to operate snow and ice clearance equipment during inclement weather., We'll assess you against these behaviours during the selection process:

Civilian drivers operate within a 24-hour, 7-days a week shift pattern conducting a shift cycle on a rotation of 2-day shifts, 2-night shifts followed by 4 days off. Contracted to a minimum of 37 hours a week over an 8-week shift cycle.
In this customer-facing role, exceptional communication and interpersonal skills are essential. The successful applicant must be a team player who can build trust-based relationships and contribute effectively within a close-knit team. A proactive and adaptable attitude is crucial to ensuring that all driving and administrative tasks are carried out to a high standard, supporting the seamless operation of MT services.
You must demonstrate a self-motivated, flexible approach, with the ability to prioritise tasks and manage resources both effectively and efficiently. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to remain composed under pressure are key, particularly when responding to last-minute customer requests. During evenings and weekends, you will often be required to work unsupervised or independently, necessitating a high level of initiative and accountability to meet operational demands.
Essential:
Category B, C+E, C, D1 and D vehicles & full ADR (or a willingness to undertake inhouse Cat D & ADR Training once in post)
To have up-to-date knowledge of current transport regulations, basic IT skills and recent experience of driving large goods vehicles.
Desirable:
Working knowledge of military logistics, MOD transport regulations and experience of working under HAZMAT regulations.

The post does not offer relocation expenses.
External recruits who join the MOD who are new to the Civil Service will be subject to a six-month probation period.
