Bookkeeper / Assistant Accountant – Gravesend
We are a small accountancy practice based in Gravesend, specialising in the construction sector. We are looking for a Bookkeeper / Assistant Accountant to join our team.
Key Responsibilities:
* Prepare and submit VAT returns in line with current regulations.
* Conduct bank reconciliations and control account management to ensure financial accuracy.
* Assist in the preparation of accounts to trial balance and support senior accountants.
* Communicate effectively with clients and HMRC regarding financial matters.
* Handle administrative tasks, including answering incoming calls and redirecting messages as necessary.
* Provide general support for the day-to-day operations of the business.
* Carry out ad hoc administrative duties as needed.
Skills & Requirements:
· The ideal candidate will have:
· Strong knowledge of VAT regulations, Making Tax Digital (MTD), and the
Construction Industry Scheme (CIS).
· Experience with Xero, Sage, and QuickBooks accounting software.
· Payroll experience (an advantage but not essential).
· Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
· Strong ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
· Great organisational and problem-solving skills.
· Confidence, motivation, and exceptional communication skills (both verbal and written).
