Job overview


We are looking for a motivated and compassionate Healthcare Support Worker to join our Out of Hospital Community Wound Healing Service at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust. This role involves delivering high-quality wound care across multiple settings, including clinics and patients' homes, under the supervision of Registered Nurses. You will play a key part in supporting patients, families, and carers, ensuring safe and effective care that aligns with our Trust values of Compassion, Openness, Pride, Partnership, Improve, Learn, and Respect. Please note:

* This is a fixed-term contract for 23 months
* Applicants must hold a full UK driving licence, have independent means of transport, and ensure their vehicle is covered by business insurance

* Provide delegated wound care and support to patients in clinics and community settings.
* Assist in implementing and evaluating care plans under the guidance of Registered Nurses.
* Report patient progress and escalate concerns promptly to senior clinicians.
* Educate patients and carers on wound care, tissue viability, and pressure ulcer prevention.
* Maintain accurate documentation and adhere to Trust policies and infection control standards.
* Participate in service improvement initiatives and clinical audits.
* Support stock management and ensure safe use of equipment.
* Work flexibly across Coventry and Warwickshire, including home visits.

The group is currently trialling a new Integrated Neighbourhood Team (INT) model following a collaborative event with internal and external stakeholders. This pilot aims to explore team structures and assess the impact on patient experience. While no formal redesign has taken place yet, the outcomes of this trial may inform future service delivery and team configuration across the group.

If you are successful in your application, please be aware that your team structure and line management may be subject to change in the future as part of this evolving model. However, any formal changes will be preceded by appropriate consultation in line with organisational policy.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

* Deliver advanced wound care interventions, including compression bandaging and application of specialist dressings.
* Prepare clinical environments and ensure compliance with infection control guidelines.
* Communicate effectively with patients, carers, and multidisciplinary teams.
* Uphold patient dignity and confidentiality at all times.
* Participate in induction and training of new staff and contribute to team development.
* Maintain accurate patient records and assist with data collection for audits.
* Ensure safe handling and transportation of equipment and samples.
* Adhere to lone working procedures and health and safety policies.
* Support service development by suggesting improvements for efficiency and patient experience.
