Fire Safety Advisor

The Fire Safety Advisor will be accountable to the Fire Safety Manager on matters of fire safety and support their goal to achieve Trust-wide Fire Safety Compliance.


Main duties of the job

The Fire Safety Advisor will provide support for the Fire Safety Manager in achieving Trust-wide Fire Safety Compliance, responsible for:

* The successful postholder will be a designated responsible person (RO) for fire, reporting to the Fire Safety Manager who acts as the competent person (CO) for all fire related processes and procedures.
* Conducting Fire Safety Audits and inspections across all Trust premises.
* Providing bespoke departmental fire evacuation training or training on evacuation aids upon request.
* Supporting the recording and reporting of fire risk assessments.
* Providing competent advice on fire legislation.
* Providing expert technical advice on the application and interpretation of fire safety guidance, including the Department of Health Firecode.
* Assisting with the review of the Trust's fire safety policy and relevant protocols and procedures.
* Leading on the development and delivery of a suitable and sufficient training programme for staff.
* Supporting the preparation of fire prevention and emergency action plans.
* Assisting with the investigation of all fire-related incidents and fire alarm actuations.
* Providing assistance in liaison with the enforcing authorities on technical issues.
* Liaising with managers and staff on fire safety issues and responding to bespoke enquiries.

Qualifications

* Bachelor's Degree in Fire Safety / Engineering / Built environment, facilities, management, or similar relevant degree, or equivalent knowledge through courses and experience.
* A Fire Safety or Health and Safety qualification (Level 3) with a relevant background in Risk or Fire Safety management.
* Level 3 award in education and training.
* Fire Service background or considerable experience of working in a Fire Safety team and environment.
* Evidence of continuing professional and personal development.


Experience

* Experience in the application of Fire Safety legislation, especially HTM-05 within an NHS organisation.
* Experience in the development and facilitation of training programmes.
* Experience with the process of conducting risk assessments and inspections.
* Experience with the use of IT systems and user support.
* Knowledge of how fire safety is managed in healthcare and familiarity with the relevant guidance and legislation.
* Experience of fire safety management within the NHS.
* Previous experience working in NHS Estates and Facilities teams.
