Job overview
The Specialist Fire Safety Advisor will provide technical expertise to management to enable the Trust to fulfil its statutory duties under fire safety legislation. The post-holder will normally be the first point of contact for external agencies in all matters relating to fire safety.
Main duties of the job
* Providing expert advice on the application and interpretation of fire legislation and fire safety guidance, including Firecode.
* Advising on the content of the organisation’s fire safety policy.
* Assisting with the development of the organisation’s fire strategy.
* Helping with the development of a suitable training programme, including delivery of the training.
* Liaising with enforcing authorities (primarily the local Fire and Rescue Service) on technical issues.
* Liaising with managers and staff on fire safety issues including training.
* Carrying out Fire Risk Assessments under the provisions of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and preparing reports accordingly.
* Undertaking Fire Safety Audits and providing authoritative reports to management about fire safety issues affecting the Trust’s continuing aim of meeting the needs of patients.
* Liaising with internal departments and external agencies in the specification of fire precautions in new and existing premises.
* Managing and supervising adequate provision and effective maintenance of all first aid fire fighting equipment and appliances, fire safety signs, notices etc.
* Liaising with and advising the local authority Emergency Services Liaison Committee on issues affecting the Trust.

All three hospitals provide planned care including outpatient services, diagnostics, therapies, day case, and inpatient surgery. Additional outreach services and diagnostics are also provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
* Provide fire safety guidance & support for staff within UHMBFT.
* Ensure compliance with statutory fire safety regulations in all Trust-owned properties, including those occupied by external agencies under Service Level Agreements.
* Design and deliver fire safety training as required.
* Operate as the Trust focal point for all fire safety-related issues.
* Lead the Fire Safety Support team (Practitioner).
Person specification
Education and Qualifications
* Degree-level qualification in Fire Safety or equivalent.
* Fire safety-related qualification.
* Membership in a recognised professional body.
Experience
* Experience in a fire safety environment.
* Fire safety management experience in the public sector.
* Experience working in a healthcare organisation.
Skills
* Extensive knowledge of fire safety regulations.
* Experience in delivering fire safety training.
Personal
