Job Title: Engineering Leader
Location: Port Sunlight Factories (Site Based)
Job Purpose
Engineering Leader supports the operation to meet performance levels via engineering standards and equipment reliability. Develop and maintain equipment maintenance systems and procedures, applying UMS and CI tools to achieve results. Coach the team in one‑to‑one sessions. Ensure improvements maintained through revisions, training and procedure changes.
Responsibilities
* Line manager of the engineering team: equip, support, empower, skill, motivate and commit the team to business objectives.
* Lead and coach the team on processes, training and regular feedback (PDP’s & 121 Completion).
* Interface with other (Quality, Safety, Planning, Warehouse, HR, Occupational Health, etc.) and own responsibilities.
* Drive escalations and prioritise work.
* Safety
o Promote a safe and efficient working environment in compliance with legislation and internal policies.
o Ensure incidents are reported, analysed and actions implemented.
o Participate in incident investigations and cascade learnings across the factory.
o Monitor team compliance with safety rules, THA’s and other risk assessments.
o Engage OSHE advisor for risk assessments and new procedures.
* Quality
o Understand all quality procedures relevant to equipment performance.
o Review quality‑related losses with the Quality Leader and agree on process elimination.
* Cost
o Manage the Repairs & Maintenance budget for factory areas.
o Liaise with Operations Manager and budget holders for improvements.
o Facilitate generation and implementation of VIP ideas.
o Highlight resource needs in line with HR policy.
o Coordinate with the Technical Department for cost‑efficient spare stores.
* 5S
o Develop, implement, sustain and continually improve the 5S programme.
* Autonomous Maintenance
o Work with Unit Leaders to ensure AM schedules meet standard and are timely.
o Identify tagging needs and organise execution per the Site Master Plan.
o Ensure tagging is carried out to correct standard.
* Effective Maintenance
o Support management of maintenance planning and activities.
o Ensure all maintenance tasks are logged effectively.
o Review and continually improve AM & PM schedules.
* Focused Improvement
o Maintain and use the area activity board.
o Use a Loss Tree to prioritise improvement activities.
o Report performance metrics and use them as efficiency KPI.
o Provide operational performance information weekly and monthly.
o Address biggest losses using a structured UMS Focused Improvement approach.
o Collaborate with other leaders for top loss problem resolution.
o Link Kaizen results to appropriate KPI performance.
o Deliver continuous loss reductions measured by the factory loss tree.
o Agree proposed equipment modifications with OSHE Leader before implementation.
o Update PM schedules and standards after Kaizen analysis and change process.
* Early Management
o Maintain technical documentation, updating with improvements or modifications.
o Participate actively in design reviews and MP workshops.
o Support project team on new equipment or product projects and ensure vertical ramp‑up and procedure changes.
* Knowledge/Skills/Experience
o NVQ/QCF 4 or equivalent (HNC/HND) in Engineering related subject.
o Dual skilled, Mechanical/Electrical desired; institutional membership desirable.
o Experience within a leadership role is desired.
o Outstanding IT skills required, specifically in Microsoft Office/Outlook.
o Knowledge of PowerPoint, Excel and SAP desirable.
