To lead the integration of design vision and engineering feasibility, guiding projects from concept to production. Acts as the key link between creative, engineering, and manufacturing teams, ensuring innovative designs are manufacturable, compliant, and meet brand and quality standards.
What You'll Do
* Collaborate with design, CAS, modelling, and UX/UI teams to create, develop, and resolve hardpoints, ensuring seamless integration into A‑Surface geometry with 100% technical compatibility.
* Lead and mentor internal and external Studio Engineering teams, providing guidance, prioritisation, and motivation to achieve project objectives.
* Act as a key liaison between the Design function and Architecture/Engineering counterparts, ensuring technical feasibility across multiple commodities and systems.
* Support vehicle development in concept and definition phases, particularly in start‑up or fast‑paced environments.
* Oversee CAD geometry creation (2D and 3D), concept design, and A‑Surface convergence to deliver production‑feasible solutions.
* Apply manufacturing process knowledge to ensure designs are production‑ready and meet quality, safety, and regulatory requirements.
* Contribute to the definition of vehicle hardpoints, occupant packaging, and proportion.
* Highly proficient in Catia V5/V6 and 3DX/Enovia.
* Strong technical design engineering skills with a collaborative, cross‑functional mindset.
* Proven team management skills with the ability to mentor, guide, and motivate others.
* Effective communicator with multidisciplinary engineering and design teams.
* Experience working in concept and definition phases of vehicle programmes, ideally within a start‑up or agile environment. Band: Band 5 cars.mclaren.com Version 1.0 Interior‑Specific Experience
* Previous OEM or Tier 1 experience in Seating, Cockpit, and Cabin Trim development.
* Detailed knowledge of cockpit, doors, seating, safety components, ergonomics, and legal/safety standards.
* Expertise in manufacturing processes for moulding, wrapping, veneer, brightwork, and illumination. Exterior‑Specific Experience
* Previous OEM or Tier 1 experience in Body Structures/Closures, Exterior Lighting, Mechanisms, and Glazing.
* In‑depth understanding of lighting/optic design, bumper systems, pedestrian protection, aerodynamics, and exterior legal/safety standards.
* Knowledge of manufacturing processes including pressing, moulding, extrusion, and assembly.
* Proven experience in whole vehicle concept layout development, including occupant packaging, exterior/interior proportions, and initial hardpoint setting.
* Ability to generate competitor vehicle geometry (layouts/dimensions) for benchmarking and concept refinement.
