The Opportunity
Our client, a growing and well-respected contractor within the Commercial Building Services sector, is looking to appoint a Junior Mechanical Estimator to strengthen their Projects and Contracts team.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who has gained around two years’ estimating experience and is ready to step up into a more responsible role. The successful Junior Mechanical Estimator will work closely with senior members of the commercial and projects teams, developing into a fully-fledged Mechanical Estimator over time.
This is a predominantly office-based role in Maidstone, Kent, offering structured development and exposure to a wide range of commercial mechanical projects.
The Role
The Junior Mechanical Estimator will be responsible for supporting the preparation of detailed and competitive cost estimates for mechanical construction works across commercial projects.
Working from drawings, specifications, and tender documentation, the Junior Mechanical Estimator will analyse project requirements and assist in building accurate pricing submissions. Site visits may occasionally be required to better understand project scope and constraints.
This role will suit someone who is analytical, detail-driven, and keen to build a long-term career in mechanical estimating within commercial building services.
Key Responsibilities

Reviewing drawings, schematics, specifications, and tender documents
*
Measuring and quantifying materials, plant, and labour requirements
*
Assisting in the preparation and submission of detailed cost estimates and formal bids
*
Supporting the completion of PQQ and ITT documentation
*
Liaising with engineers, subcontractors, manufacturers, and suppliers to clarify scope and pricing
*
Identifying potential commercial risks and highlighting value engineering opportunities
*
Negotiating with suppliers to secure competitive material and equipment pricing
*
Maintaining accurate records of estimates and updating cost databases
*
Keeping up to date with current industry rates, materials, and mechanical technologies
The Junior Mechanical Estimator will work closely with senior estimators and directors, gaining hands-on mentoring and development.
Skills & Experience Required
*
Minimum 2 years’ experience in an estimating or similar commercial role
*
Solid understanding of mechanical systems and building services principles
*
Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills
*
Excellent attention to detail and organisational ability
*
Ability to work to deadlines and manage multiple tenders simultaneously
*
Proficient with CRM systems and general estimating software
*
Higher-level qualification or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline
*
CAD knowledge or qualification (preferred)
*
Experience using SimPro (beneficial but not essential)
