Overview
We are looking for experienced, motivated, and patient‑centred General Practitioners to provide high‑quality clinical services on a self‑employed basis. Join our dynamic team, delivering care to patients across Urgent Treatment Centres and Out‑of‑Hours settings. This independent role will give you the opportunity to enhance your skills and experience while delivering high‑quality urgent care. This is a face‑to‑face role including base and visiting; remote shifts are not available.
HUC provides the NHS111 and Out of Hours GP service to over 4.5 million patients across Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, West Essex and the South West of England.
Service Locations & Hours
* Luton Urgent Treatment Centre: Monday to Sunday 8:00 – 20:00
* Hemel Urgent Treatment Centre: Monday to Sunday 8:00 – 23:00
* St Albans Integrated Urgent Care Hub: Monday to Friday 9:00 – 18:00
Responsibilities
* Uphold the principles of the General Medical Council's "Good Medical Practice" by representing HUC and the NHS professionally, ensuring consistency and the sharing of best practices across clinical services.
* Make independent, professional decisions to address individual patient issues effectively.
* Evaluate and address the healthcare needs of patients presenting with undiagnosed or undefined conditions.
* Maintain accurate, clear, and timely consultation records in line with agreed professional standards.
* Prescribe treatments appropriately, adhering to the HUC prescribing formulary.
* Manage case lists proactively to minimise reliance on face‑to‑face services, including ambulance referrals, A&E visits, urgent care centres, and out‑of‑hours services.
* Ensure all cases are handled promptly, providing patient support or reallocating cases if delays occur.
* Collaborate closely with operational managers on duty to deliver seamless services and achieve clinical and quality outcomes.
* Adhere to safeguarding protocols and uphold best practices in clinical governance.
Qualifications & Requirements
* Fully qualified GP with GMC registration and included in the GP Register.
* Annual appraisal and revalidation.
* General Practice (Vocational Training Scheme) with MRCGP examination or equivalent.
* On the relevant medical performers list (with no conditions preventing working or restrictions on practice).
* Full professional indemnity.
* Membership of relevant Specialist Societies or Associations.
* Practiceable GP – currently practising.
* Compliance with Disclosure and Barring Service requirements; this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975.
Legal and Administrative Requirements
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
