Public health analyst – public health

London
Hackney
Public health analyst
Posted: 25 September
Offer description

Hackney is one of the most dynamic and progressive local authorities in the UK. We are a resilient, vibrant, and creative borough in the heart of London, with strong, diverse communities and a powerful set of shared values.

Over the past twenty years, the Council has built up first-class services, outstanding public infrastructure, and a reputation for excellence, innovation, and ambition. We are leading the way on essential work such as our fight for equity in Hackney with a particular focus on becoming an actively anti-racist borough. But the work doesn’t stop there, we are proactive in our approach to bringing fairness to all aspects of life including gender, neurodiversity and across the poverty divide.

Our Public Health Service plays a vital role in this mission. We’re passionate about improving the health and wellbeing of our communities in both Hackney and the City of London. We work collaboratively and creatively to address health inequalities and create a healthier future for all.

The City of London Corporation shares this commitment to community and sustainability. As the governing body of the Square Mile, they play a crucial role in supporting a thriving London and contributing to a flourishing society.

As a Public Health Analyst, you will play a critical role within the Public Health Intelligence Team (PHIT), supporting strategic planning and service development across Hackney and the City of London. You will be responsible for the end-to-end delivery of analytical projects that contribute to tackling health inequalities, shaping public health priorities and informing commissioning decisions.

You will transform complex datasets into actionable insight using tools such as Tableau, Python, and Google Workspace. This includes analysing demographic, health and service data, preparing briefings and reports for senior stakeholders and supporting delivery of statutory outputs like the Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA).

You will also provide expert advice to partners on public health intelligence, contribute to evidence-based planning and evaluation and help build data capability across the wider team. You will lead on specific work areas and collaborate with colleagues across and beyond the organisation to make best use of analytical and data resources, ensuring insight is co-produced, ethical, secure and impactful. You may also work directly with residents and service users to ensure their lived experiences are embedded as a key source of insight, helping to shape more inclusive and responsive public health planning.

We are looking for a proactive and technically confident analyst with a strong foundation in epidemiology, statistics and public health data. You should have experience working in a public health or health-focused analytical team, ideally within local government, healthcare, charity or a similar setting.

Key requirements include:

1. Proven ability to analyse, interpret and present complex data clearly for different audiences.
2. Proficiency in tools such as Tableau, Power BI, Python, R, SPSS and/or STATA.
3. Experience working with population health datasets and performance data.
4. Ability to manage your own projects, work collaboratively across disciplines and communicate insight in a way that supports decision-making.
5. A solid understanding of data confidentiality, ethics, and information governance, and how to apply this in practice.
6. A strong commitment to continuous professional development and an interest in using data to drive meaningful change for communities.

As a Council, our most outstanding asset is our staff, who are highly dedicated to serving our residents and committed to our goals as an organisation.
