Forensic Consultant Psychiatrist – Overview
Location: Charlwood, Surrey, United Kingdom. This role is based in a low and medium secure hospital specialising in treating male patients aged 18+ who have been detained under the Mental Health Act (1983) and who will benefit from extended treatment and rehabilitation.
Key Responsibilities
* Take clinical responsibility for patients, including multidisciplinary ward rounds, risk reviews, strategic reviews and the development of a therapeutic milieu.
* Act as the Responsible Clinician for patients detained under the Mental Health Act (1983).
* Offer a psychiatric perspective to the multidisciplinary team in relation to the assessment, formulation and treatment of patients.
* Contribute to management meetings, clinical governance meetings for the services and help develop service strategy.
* Provide in‑house training programmes and offer supervision to junior medical staff within the multidisciplinary team.
* Maintain CPD and re‑validation requirements as determined by the Royal College of Psychiatrists or other relevant statutory bodies.
Preferred Skills and Experience
* Innovative and imaginative approach to decision making.
* Strong understanding of current developments in psychiatry and mental health.
* Knowledge of change management, legislation, contemporary mental health issues and purchaser/provider contractual issues.
* Previous Consultant experience in a management role.
