About the Role:
We are seeking a Productivity Manager to lead the transformation of labour planning across our retail estate. This hands-on role will embed a modern, workload-driven workforce management approach, shifting from cost-based to demand-led, hours-based planning aligned to customer and operational needs. Working with Operations, Finance, HR and Data teams, you will own labour modelling, productivity improvement and workforce planning standards, initially embedding a new labour model before driving ongoing optimisation and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities:
1. Labour Model Ownership & Development
Own and refine the labour model, aligning workload drivers to labour hoursTranslate operational activity into accurate labour requirementsMaintain and evolve labour assumptions, drivers and rulesSupport scenario modelling to inform trading and investment decisions2. Workforce Planning & Productivity
Embed a consistent labour planning approach across all storesDefine and apply labour standards and productivity benchmarksIdentify efficiency opportunities while protecting customer experienceAnalyse planned, actual and payroll labour performance to deliver insights3. Store Engagement & Ways of Working
Partner with Operations to embed new labour planning principlesSupport stores to understand and optimise labour deploymentProvide clear, practical guidance for rota planning and labour managementBridge central strategy and store-level execution4. Data, Insight & Performance Management
Develop reporting and insights to support labour decisions Track key labour metrics and performance outcomesWork with Data/BI teams to improve data quality and visibilityEnsure a single, trusted view of labour performance5. Continuous Improvement & Change
Drive ongoing improvement of labour planning processes and toolsSimplify and standardise ways of working where possibleSupport the evolution of workforce planning capability and toolsContribute to broader operational excellence and cost initiatives6. Cross-Functional Collaboration
Partner with Finance to align labour hours and payroll costsWork with HR on labour structures, contracts and complianceCollaborate with Technology teams to optimise workforce systems (e.g. UKG)Engage stakeholders at all levels to drive alignment and adoptionPerson Specification:
Experience & Skills
Experience in workforce management, labour optimisation, operations or productivity roles in a multi-site environment (retail or hospitality preferred), with a strong understanding of labour planning, scheduling and productivity driversConfident using data, models and performance metrics to inform decisions, including building and refining models in Excel or similar toolsComfortable working in evolving environments where processes, tools and models are still being developedCapabilities
Strong analytical and practical problem-solving skills, with the ability to simplify complex concepts for operational teamsEffective stakeholder management and influencing skills, working confidently across functionsResilient and adaptable, able to drive change in a fast-paced environmentMindset
