Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust is pleased to announce the development and introduction of these new roles. The posts will be a combination of service delivery and educational input within the specialty. These posts are not recognised UK training posts. However, the post-holders will have a named supervisor and be supported in undertaking scheduled educational opportunities within the Trust and specialties.
An Introduction to the Division/Specialty from Head of Service. An opportunity has arisen for dynamic and motivated doctor to join our department for 12 months. The Department offers a supportive and encouraging environment in which to develop technical and professional skills.
Acute General Surgery with all the Emergency Surgery and SDEC based on the Wakefield site, with Elective General Surgery taking place across the 3 sites. The surgical registrars participate in a 1:16 rota on a full shift.
The post holder will work alongside the other specialty registrars and will be expected to actively participate in the day to day running of the General Surgical department and will have the opportunity to attend operating theatre sessions and out-patients clinics.
The Service Role – From a clinical perspective these posts will participate in the cross site senior trainee rota. The senior trainee rota is compliant with the 2016 resident doctor contract averaging 48 hours per week. The illustrative rota pattern is attached to this job description. Duties will be based primarily on our Pinderfields Hospital and Dewsbury Hospital sites although all our medical staff are involved in delivering care to patients on all our sites.
Main duties of the post will include:
* Provision of care with responsibility for the management of patients with acute and chronic conditions including complex cases.
* Referral of patients to other specialities as appropriate.
* Out-patient activities/clinics.
* Involvement in specialty and cross-specialty multi-disciplinary teams and meetings.
* Involvement in relevant administration duties.
* Teaching and supervision of junior medical staff and other clinicians as appropriate.
* Active involvement in audit and clinical governance including service improvement activities.

Terms & Conditions and Tenure Employment
Employment will be as a MYDoc Registrar on Trust Terms and Conditions of Service. Appointment as a MYDoc Registrar is intended to be for a maximum three-year period as part of an individual development programme for the Doctor, however, the post is initially offered on a fixed term contract for 12 months.
Pay Scale
These roles are equivalent to a doctor on specialty training programmes and will be paid on the equivalent pay scale. The salary is currently £65,048 per annum.
Appraisal and Revalidation
This post is not recognised for training and brings with it an obligation to engage with the process of revalidation on an annual basis. All our Trust appointed doctors are required to engage positively with appraisal and revalidation. The Trust has procedures that comply with national recommendations. As a Trust employed doctor on a fixed term contract successfully appointed applicants will need to have a prescribed connection with Mid Yorkshire NHS Trust via GMC Connect and will therefore have the Medical Director at the Trust as their GMC Responsible Officer.
Continuing Professional Development
The Trust requires all its doctors to engage with continuing professional development, guided by the relevant professional associations or Royal Colleges. Time and funding is provided according to departmental and Trust policies, subject to approval through the clinical management structures. There is a programme of mandatory training which all relevant staff must complete as required.
Research
Medical staff are encouraged to develop areas of personal and/or research interest. This can be developed in liaison with the Trust's R&D department and in line with prevailing policies and research frameworks. The Trust is developing an expanding and outward-looking research programme.
Educational & Clinical Supervision
The post holder will have a named educational supervisor and be expected to hold regular meetings with them during their tenure to ensure appropriate development during their appointment.
Audit and Clinical Governance
There is a rolling half-day clinical governance programme and audit meetings are well attended and lively. The Clinical Audit Department assists with setting and supporting an audit programme for the Service with which all colleagues are encouraged to engage. Clinical Audit is considered within objectives as part of job planning.
