BHRUT would like to invite applications for a whole time Speciality Doctor in Anaesthetics.
This is a whole time post based on 10 Programmed Activities (PA's) per week Specialty Doctor Contract. Post offers 8 PA's dedicated to clinical duties in Anaesthetics, 1 Supporting PA and additional 1 PA's for special interests and personal development.
You will be joining a dynamic and forward thinking team of doctors and the division of Anaesthesia at BHRUT provides anaesthetic, critical care and acute and chronic pain services for the local population. This takes the form of elective and emergency anaesthesia supporting the broad range of surgical specialties that the Trust provides; critical care services including a consultant lead critical care outreach team; acute pain ward rounds; and outpatient clinics for chronic pain, anaesthetic pre-assessment and critical care follow-up.

Main duties of the job
1. Contribute to the provision of a high quality, responsive anaesthetic service to Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust that assumes responsibility for the patients within the catchment area in co-operation with colleagues in critical care, surgery and other clinical departments.
• Comply with the agreed job plan, which will be reviewed annually.
• Participate in an emergency out of hours resident on-call cover for general anaesthetics or obstetric anaesthesia or critical care (if required).
• Contribute to postgraduate and continuing education for medical, nursing, technical staff, GP’s and other allied professions.
• Deputise in the absence of departmental colleagues in cases of annual leave and (where practicable) short-term sickness.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Contribute (in co-operation with the Audit Committee) on a regular basis to the clinical audit process undertaken within the Trust, and where appropriate at a broader regional level.
• Encourage and participate in appropriate research initiatives approved by the local Ethical Committee. Experience in research and audit is advantageous.
• Maintain an up to date knowledge of current anaesthetic practice.
• Undertake administrative duties associated with the care of patients. Attend departmental meetings.
• Support the Divisional Director, Specialty Lead, Associate medical Director and other professional colleagues in the management of the department in order to ensure the maintenance of high standards, a good quality of patient care and the development of the service within the Clinical Governance framework.
Although this position is a 12 months fixed-term contract, the actual contract duration will be adjusted to account for the time taken to advertise the post, complete the hiring process, and finalise pre-employment checks. This means the contract will begin when the candidate starts the role and may be slightly shorter than 12 months.

2. MBBS or equivalent
3. Should have completed 3 years training in anaesthesia
4. Ability to practice anaesthesia in general specialties; experience of high risk anaesthesia
5. GMC registered with a licence to practise
Desirable criteria
6. Diploma in Anaesthesia Fellowship of the Royal College Anaesthetists or equivalent
7. Evidence of Anaesthesia audits
8. Broad experience of general anaesthesia and analgesia
