Job Title: Design Coordinator / Design Manager
We are seeking a Design Coordinator or Design Manager to join a busy main contractor working on a new build MOJ project in Wiltshire. The project is on-site within the next few weeks and is part of a multi-phase scheme over the coming years.
The contractor's scope includes commercial offices, industrial buildings, leisure centres, care and retirement homes, with project values ranging from £15m to £100m.
Reporting to the Senior Design Manager, you will collaborate with preconstruction and construction teams to manage information flow throughout the project phases. The role involves working from the office, home, and on-site as needed.
Key Duties:
1. Manage design development for various work packages;
2. Oversee the consultant design team;
3. Coordinate with clients, architects, consultants, and construction teams;
4. Ensure schedules and key dates are met;
5. Engage with local authorities to secure planning permissions;
6. Review construction design information for buildability, compliance, and budget;
7. Identify value engineering opportunities;
8. Resolve issues proactively;
9. Ensure timely delivery of detailed design information for procurement and construction.
About the Company/Client/Project:
The company is a reputable national main contractor with an annual turnover of approximately £1.2 billion. It is part of a larger group with extensive experience in delivering new build and refurbishment projects across the UK, including commercial offices, industrial buildings, schools, prisons, leisure centres, and care homes.
Requirements:
Candidates should have a background in engineering, construction delivery, or architecture, with excellent technical and commercial knowledge, understanding of construction methodologies, materials, systems, and procurement timelines.
Strong communication, negotiation, planning, and problem-solving skills are essential. The ideal candidate is highly motivated, positive, ambitious, and capable of working well within a team.
Experience in successful project delivery with a recognized main contractor in a design coordination or management role, or as a site manager transitioning into design management, is preferred.
Applicants with prior MOJ or government framework experience on major projects are especially encouraged to apply.
